Wed Ass Beat, Fri Grappling Champion, & Excitement List

This past week has been surprising! It felt sooo long, but I didn’t even work out on Monday!

Monday= sick (food poisoning)

Tuesday= I took Muay Thai (among other things) and that messed me up for the week. I think I pulled my right calf muscle and I was limping all week. I kept on going and going, though, and yesterday I could barely walk! 🙁 Tuesday night I hardly slept.

Wednesday= I was dead tired. In ...

No More Girls

This past week or so has been great, just training same ol’ same ol’ 😉 Did I tell you a fellow FEMALE showed up in the morning MMA (jiu jitsu) class? We have been partnering up and become fast friends. I have felt though that in the time she has been here, my learning has not been accelerating as much. Despite two seminars by world class black belts and daily sessions, I don’t think I have gotten as much out ...

Doin it in tha Dark

The highlight of this week’s training I’d say was Thursday night jiu jitsu class.

Why? —> THE SPIRIT OF THE CLASS!

It was around 7:15 PM, after we had completed our warm up drills, and we were in a circle stretching, getting ready to start the technique portion of class. Suddenly, all the power at Tiger Muay Thai went out. It was pitch black. Here we are, sitting on the mats in this outdoor training camp, gazing at blackness all around, and ...

This little boy is soooo cute!!

Sunday was my visa run, so I flew to Malaysia and back. I also called Orbitz, the company I bought my airline tickets from, and they said that I had the option of flying on January 20th at no charge because it was the “same class” of tickets, but if I chose any other day to return home, I would have to pay at least $500 for change fee plus fare difference. Since I am trying to watch my money, ...

I Made It To The Finals!

Training = Fun Times

The past couple days have been great, just focusing on training. This past Monday through Friday this was generally my schedule:

9-12 jiu jitsu (3 hours)

grab a protein shake, shower, then

1-2 Muay Thai (1 hour)

then chill the rest of the day.

I am still figuring out if this works best for me.

I Made It To the Finals in the Grappling Tournament!!!!

Yesterday was an interesting day!! Mixed high and lows, mostly highs 🙂 In the morning, ...

Smashed in Class But It's a Great Day!

Ahh, good day so far.

In the morning MMA class, we did…um..I don’t know. I kind of forget. In one eye and out the other, right? In rolling at the end of class, I basically got crushed again and again by the guys. Which sucked. But I am okay with that, as I said, because I know it’s part of the learning process, especially when these guys are big and strong and I have to have solid technique to be able ...

Not Ready to Go

Just a quick update! After my time off of classes to heal up the staph, I was SO ready to get back into it! It sucked to have to “quarantine” myself. Monday I took classes and that was ever so fun. Tuesday I took classes and that was ever so fun. And today I’m ready for more! The only thing I kind of need to figure out is how to balance it all out. I want to take so many ...

Diagnosis: Infected

IMG_0499
That’s my forearm. Looks weird in the picture? Anyway, peeps, looks like I must delay training once more.
Who: Me
What: Staph
Why: Training Jiu Jitsu in the Tropics?
How: I don’t know. I wash with anti-bacterial soap after training, shower 2-3 times a day, wear long shirts and pants. But so many peeps have staph here, and it’s all ...

Phuket: dead bodies and fighting training

This morning my sleep was quite fretful because not only was I emotionally riled up, but I kept on having visions of this dead Thai girl. You see, last night on the way back to Tiger, right at the intersection before you go down our street- was a lot of traffic. We were riding in a tuk-tuk, which is a car with no windows so we could see everything very clearly. As we made the turn, I saw a Thai ...

Same but Different

Friday:

woke up, chilled out

9 AM “MMA” class (jiu jitsu)

learned a little bit about take downs:

  • head to the side, grasp under their butt, lift them up, and drive them to the side with your head
  • lower your level, drive your forehead into their sternum, and lift their legs so they slam onto their back
  • pummel, bump your shoulder with the shoulder of the hand NOT in the underhook (keep the underhook), push their head down and wrist clasping their chin, yank ...
