This past week or so has been great, just training same ol’ same ol’ 😉 Did I tell you a fellow FEMALE showed up in the morning MMA (jiu jitsu) class? We have been partnering up and become fast friends. I have felt though that in the time she has been here, my learning has not been accelerating as much. Despite two seminars by world class black belts and daily sessions, I don’t think I have gotten as much out of them as I should have. And I believe it is because we are both white belts, and when we work together, we don’t get much accomplished. I bet that other guys are relieved that the two us partner up, because I think they don’t want to be with girls, but we made a pact that starting today we will try not to be partners again. For example, when I try to work the techniques on her, she doesn’t know how to be the “receiving partner” e.g. she is supposed to stay kneeling, but she falls over or something, so then I can’t work MY technique properly. Also, if she wants to do a technique, she may not know how to do it and I may know how to do it (kind of) but don’t know how to explain it, so then she is looking at me all confused and I am helpless, not knowing how to tell her how to do it, so we are staring at each other like ehhh we don’t know what to do with each other. Then that takes up time, so then I don’t get as much practice doing technique. She also doesn’t benefit because if she had an experienced partner who could help her, things would be flowing more smoothly and she could be practicing the technique instead of us looking around, trying to find some help because neither one of us know what we’re doing. Yesterday we had a seminar from some amazingly accomplished black belts from Brazil, but we were partners and it came to a point when she is on top of me and she doesn’t know what to do and I don’t know what to tell her. I told her that I like her, but we can’t be partners anymore, because neither one of us is benefiting! She agreed. Two white belts together = no bueno. We will partner with boys from now on! 😉
