Green Oatmeal

Breakfast was some numminess.

(BTW, check out this funny blog post I read yesterday from Smoothie Girl regarding “nom nom” http://smoothiegirleatstoo.blogspot.com/2010/04/tiramisu-for-breakfast-nom-nom-nom.html)

What was breakfast, might you ask?

Well, it might be GREEN OATMEAL!

I was inspired by certain pictures:

So of course I made my own variation, based upon whims…and what I had in the house. Of course, my pictures (below) are not so beautiful, but whatevz.

I mixed:

  • 1 packet maple cinnamon sugar-free oatmeal
  • 1/3 cup egg whites
  • 1 splash unsweetened almond breeze (almond milk)
  • ½ scoop protein powder (I grabbed VPX graham cracker, but I would have preferred cake batter- if I hadn’t run out- doh!)

and put it in the microwave for one 30 sec.

Meanwhile, I blended:

  • 1 handful of spinach with
  • 1/3 cup water

Then, I mixed the liquid with the oatmeal mix, topped with

  • some more cinnamon
  • some blueberries

then nuked it for another 30 sec. Green oats!!!

Green oatmeal!

Green oatmeal!

(Caution: only use a little bit of spinach so the taste is masked. You can’t taste the spinach at all! If you use too much spinach, you might taste the bitterness. Now go grab a handful and add some color and added nutrients to your oatmeal. Woo!)

Oh great idea for the microwave version! I used to only make stove-top but now I’m a microwave gal and never could figure out how to get the spinach in there!

  3. Get down with your bad self! Love the idea of green oats! So cool- love ’sneaking’ in veggies where they are least expected muahahah!

Thanks soooo much for the shout-out and tweet- what a lovely surprise! :-)

For what it’s worth I think your green oats are nom-my! :-)
