Chillin like a Villain….Maui Style

I am blessed to be in Maui right now!

Of course I signed up for a week long gym membership, because despite the beauty outdoors, for me there is nothing like the gym. Cold hard iron, baby.

Besides my morning workout, just been chillin. Enjoying the loco moco and coconuts. Tryna work on my (non existent) tan.

Happy Holidays πŸ˜‰

Much ...

First Powerlifting Meet Went Awesome!!

The meet was swimmingly.

Friday afternoon Emily and I drove up to Modesto for weigh ins and to get our equipment approved. Even competing in the raw division, they have to check your singlet, shoes, shirt, etc.

That done, we carb loaded on some hamburgers n chili cheese fries and I ate tons of swedish fish, rice krispie treats, and other unmentionables.

We met up with our trainer Dan, his fiancee, Mike (competing too), and his wife. Em and I snacked on more ...

Hoo-Rag Review

Woop! Hoo-Rag was kind enough to send me a hoo-rag to review! They sent me a stylish white and black design that can be worn as a bandana, neck rag, head band, face mask, etc…
It’s slightly stretchy, so it wraps my head comfortably tightly…
About to go work out! Will let you know how it handles my sweat ;P

Easy Leg Workout This Morning

I have this obsession whereby I really need to go to the gym in the morning. I don’t know what it is. I just like to be there. Even if I’m just walking and stretching– I like to be there. It feels good.

So today I planned to do “cardio” which means I will be messing around. I walked for 8 minutes on the treadmill before I was bored out of my mind, so I tried to lift as easily as ...

Conventional Versus Sumo Deadlifts

There are many different ways to do deadlifts, and the most popular are conventional and sumo. More and more, sumo is becoming the deadlift of choice among powerlifters.Β McGuinan and Wilson (1996) did biomechanical analysis of the sumo and conventional style deadlift. The following is a summary of what they found:

1. The lift-off-Β The sumo has a trunk angle that is significantly closer to vertical that conventional lifters. Sumo lifters were also found ...

Master of the Box, Woodway Curve, and Powerlifting Update

Just a quick post so you peeps know i’m alive πŸ˜‰

read this great article the other day, and wanted to pass it along:
http://strengthcoachblog.com/2012/01/09/there-is-a-reason-there-is-a-box/

Mike Boyle, prominent strength coach, writes how it is more important to be MASTER of the box before attempting to “think outside of the box.” Athletic excellence is not necessarily about any fancy tricks. Its mastery of the simple things. Rotation, single leg balance, deceleration, level change, properly pulling, pushing, etc etc…No fancy gadgets or ...

4 Thanksgiving Day Strategies to Battle the Bulge!

Good morning my lovelies!
Happy Thanksgiving πŸ˜‰
I’m waking up and about to get my sweat on before I meet my fam that flew into town. πŸ˜‰ So excited to see them.

First of all, I want to share some random updates….
Last week I twisted my ankle showing off during dancing (karma bites me) so that, as well as other minor health issues, have impeded my powerlifting training. I will still compete, but I am feeling weak and stiff, so ...

First Powerlifting Competition!!

Hello folks!
I am super excited about my first powerlifting competition: United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) NORCAL Powerlifting Championship on Dec 15th, in Modesto.
I don’t know why, but I always like setting my eye on new ambitious challenges, and my newest challenge is to jump in to my first powerlifting meet, and not only compete, but win first place, and break all the state records for my division.

To this end, I am shifting my focus from bodybuilding style workouts ...

Yummy Meal Prepping

Hello ladies and gentlemen, guess what, I’m back to cooking. For a while my fridge was bare because nothing seemed enticing to cook, and also I was sort of embracing spontaneity and flexibility and going out to eat and all that. But, as many of you probably relate to, while I loved that, there was a little part of me that wanted that discipline.

I couldn’t impose that on myself, though. I just couldn’t. I didn’t really want to. I wanted ...
